Alice in Wonderland is a 2010 fantasy adventure film directed by Tim Burton, written by Linda Woolverton, and starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, Michael Sheen and Stephen Fry and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is an extension of Lewis Carroll's novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. The film uses a technique of combining live action and 3D animation.
In the film, Alice is now nineteen years old and accidentally returns to Underland (misheard by Alice and believed to be called Wonderland), a place she visited thirteen years previously. She is told that she is the only one who can slay the Jabberwocky, a dragon-like creature controlled by the Red Queen who terrorizes Underland's inhabitants. (From Wikipedia)Ive been noticing a disturbing trend with new movies. There is dependence on graphics instead of plot, character development, and back story.
I was very excited to see this movie, I loved the Disney version and other movies and books based on Lewis Carroll's novels. Unfortunately I was disappointed with this rendition, the aforementioned issue I have with new movies is the reason.
I didn't feel invested in any of the characters, the story was boring and predictable. Actually, I really loved the White queen. She was hilarious, even though I didn't care whether she won in the end or not. Besides that...Meh. Surprisingly ()Burton said the original Wonderland story was always about a girl wandering around from one weird character to another and he never felt a connection emotionally, so he wanted to make it feel more like a story than a series of events.()
He achieved the opposite. () Among Rotten Tomatoes' "Top Critics", which consists of popular and notable critics from the top newspapers, websites, television and radio programs, the film holds an overall approval rating of 62%, based on a sample of 37 reviews, with an average rating of 6.1/10. The site's general consensus is that "Tim Burton's Alice sacrifices the book's minimal narrative coherence – and much of its heart – but it's an undeniable visual treat."() I don't see how this movie achieved even that, when 'the consensus' is that it's main good point is 'it's pretty'!
Sure the landscaping was awesome, but really, why didn't I care that Alice over came her fear and did what she needed? The movie could have been black and white with cardboard cutouts for a back drop and been AMAZING if they had put as much effort into the plot and character/story development as they did the 3D and graphics. Burton really disappointed me. He and Nolan are neck in neck for worst director and ruiner of awesome stories.
Also, I reeeeaaaally hated The Hatter. I don't care. Johnny Depp sexy aside, worst character in the movie. I'm not even going to get into it. Such fail.
Don't rent it, Don't buy it, don't see it. 0/10

I agree, i used to respect Tim but now he's just as money hungry as the next hack director. I really wish HollyWood would stop doing re-makes and make movies on there own.
