The Little Shop of Horrors

Little Shop of Horrors is the 1986 black comedy musical film adaptation of the off-Broadway musical comedy of the same name by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a nerdy florist shop worker who raises a vicious plant that feeds on human blood. Menken and Ashman's off-Broadway musical was based on the low-budget 1960 film The Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Roger Corman.

The film was directed by Frank Oz, and stars Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Steve Martin, and the voice of Levi Stubbs as the plant. Ashman wrote the film's screenplay, his first and only one before his death in 1991. (Wikipedia)

I Really like Musicals...

This Movie is one of my all time faves, it has a dark humor that really appeals to me, good songs and a really good plot. It's a great fantasy/sifi film.
Steve Martin, even though he was only in it for a few scenes, did his best performance ever. Father of the bride was good and all but his acting was kinda blah, but in this movie he plays Orin Scrivello a sadistic dentist who has an awesome song to prove it, he is the female leads boyfriend for the beginning of the movie, and he rocks those tight black pants.

While I do enjoy the songs and plot, there are a few things about this movie that bother me. Audry's lisp drives me insane, she sings really well when she belts but every other time she sings she kinda sucks. Her best song was 'Suddenly Seymour', she did really well with that one.
It's kinda sad when the back up singers sing better then the lead. This is how it is for the whole movie though, not even Steve Martin's song is better then the back up singers and I LOVE that song. I wouldn't change the cast if I could, despite the problems I have with it, this movie is pretty awesome just the way it is.

Go Buy it!
